DC orders removal of illegal structures in agricultural land

Imphal, June 14 2022:
Imphal West district administration has asked illegal encroachers on river banks and state lands, as well as land owners to remove illegal and unauthorised structures by June 23 .
In an order issued on Tuesday, DC Imphal West stated that the district administration has received several reports that paddy/agricultural lands are being utilised for non-agricultural purposes in many areas without obtaining approval from the competent author ity in contravention to the provisions of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 .
Encroachment has also been reported along riverbanks and other state lands by the surrounding residents in contravention of the provisions of the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1978 .
Moreover, un authorised structures have been observed erected/constructed along the National' Highways and state roads thereby reducing the road width and creating lots of public inconveniences, traffic congestions and drainage issues, the order stated.
It then asked all the individuals or organisations responsible to remove all such structures along the National Highways/State Highways, Inter-District Roads and other roads and along the river banks located in the Imphal West district latest by 3 PM of June 23 .
It also asked to restore all agricultural lands, which have been diverted for non-agricultural activities without approval from the competent authority, to the originalpositions latest by 3 PM of June 23 .
Failure to comply with the order shall invite strict penal actions under the relevant Act and the land owners/encroachers concerned shall have to bear all the cost for such'restoration/removal of the structures.
