Imphal, June 10 2022:
Communist Part of India (CPI), Manipur on Friday convened a meeting at Bishnupur district, CPI Shanglen, to discuss various problems of the state with special focus on recurring issue of shortage of fertilisers endured by the farmers.
During the meeting, CPI-Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar remarked that the state government should be ashamed of not being able to provide fertilisers to the farmers of the state.
The government is at fault for the shortage issue to keep occurring every year.
There is also suspicion if the fertilisers have been secretly utilised for poppy plantations and the rest sold off to the neighbouring Country privately.
It is not possible for such private dealings to escape the government's eyes.
Thus, the government should take up steps to provide the farmers of the state with fertilisers immediately or clarify the reason for its inability, he demanded.
The meeting also observed that although some farmers received the fertilisers, majority are unable to buy the same as it is being sold at Rs 50-60 per kg A bag of urea which should cost only Rs 300 is being sold at around Rs 2500, which is a huge problem for farmers.
The gathering also resolved to launch movement if the government is unable to solve the problem.
The meeting was also attended by CPI-Manipur State Council and District leaders M Joykumar, K Bimol and S Nilkamal among others.
