During the technical session, academic experts highlighted the necessity of providing children of every community with the option to receive education in their own native tongue adding that this should be treated as a human right.
Other experts mentioned the strong negative reactions that reverberated across the State following imposition of Hindi by the Centre and opined that non-Manipuri communities of the State might harbour the same sentiments if they are not provided with the option to learn in their own native languages.
An academic further spoke on the matter and added that in hill areas children cannot fully comprehend the concepts of Mathematics when it is taught in Manipuri, which poses a serious obstacle in imparting proper education.
As such, the idea of teaching children in their native tongue should be encouraged, the academic asserted.
