Imphal, June 10 2022:
LDA Chairman M Asnikumar on Friday undertook a field visit of forest areas of Tokpa Khul.
It may be mentioned that Tokpa Khul was created by Loktak Development Authority (LDA) years ago as part of the Catchment Area Conservation and Treatment Programme targeting about 500 hectares of primary catchment areas of Loktak lake.
Presently, the area has become a rainforest; expanded to more than 1000 hectares and is now home to many endangered indigenous/rare species of flora and fauna.
Speaking to media persons, M Asnikumar stated that the forest area of Tokpa Khul has survived the test of time owing to natural regeneration and plantation by the locals.

The chairman also conveyed his sincere appreciation to the villagers/local communities of Tokpa Khul for their colossal contributions in preserving the forest which would surely aid in boosting the local economy.
"Ultimately, it will also help in the conservation of the treasured Loktak lake", he asserted.
Interacting with the locals after the conclusion of the field visit, M Asnikumar appealed to the public to continue their conservation efforts and assured them of all possible assistance from LDA and other concerned State Government Departments.
He further appraised the villagers that preserving the state's natural resources like forests, water bodies is the primary environment agenda of the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
