Tamenglong, June 10 2022:
The Drivers Association Tamenglong has resolved to impose a total bandh on Tamenglong-Khongsang road from June 18 onwards if the road stretch is not repaired properly and made suitable for vehicular movement by June 17 .
Speaking to media persons, Drivers Association Tamenglong president Gai-kaopou Gonmei claimed that Shivalaya Construction Company which is engaged to construct double lane road on Tamenglong-Khongsang stretch has failed to work in public interest.
Earth and mud generated from cutting of hill sides/slopes are causing serious inconveniences to transporters, he said He claimed that trucks carrying essentials from Khongsang village take four days to reach Tamenglong district headquarters due to the pathetic road condition.
Saying that the road condition is most unpleasant in between Namkaolong and Khongsang village and passengers pushing vehicles has become a common sight there, he urged the authority concerned to repair the road by June 17 .
Gaikaopou Gonmei further claimed that Shivalaya Construction Company did not clear the mud generated from the hill cutting works and the same has compromised the safety of commuters and transporters.
Further claiming that the company hardly repaired and filled the potholes along the stretch, he continued that almost everyday one or two vehicles meet with accidents due to the pathetic road condition.
He also claimed that a portion of the road which had already been black-topped has also started developing cracks.
Urging the authority to look into the matter and arrange a temporary route at the earliest, Gaikaopou Gonmei cautioned that the association will impose a total bandh along the road stretch and ban the construction company from proceeding with their project from June 18 onwards.
The Tamenglong district headquarters is also going through shortage of essentials such as LPG, fuel and edibles due to the pathetic road condition and the snapping of Irang bridge, he claimed.
