Imphal/Bishnupur, June 10 2022:
IMPHAL/BPR: Development and Protection United Voluntary Organisation (DPUVO), Nambol secretary Th Lamjingba Singh has dismissed as baseless and malicious claims by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) president Abdullah Phundreimayum that he was assaulted by RIMS X-ray technician N Samarendra, around 11.47 pm on June 8.Addressing a press conference at DPUVO office on Friday in the presence of representatives of Nambol Apunba Nupi Lup and Leimaram Yaipha Lamjing Lup, Lamjingba recounted that on the said day Abdullah accompanied a patient for the latter's X-ray and an argument ensued as the duo's arrival time was late and it was not an emergency case.
However, Abdullah tried to have the X-ray taken forcefully saying he was president of MMWO and is close to an MLA.
On hearing the commotion, RIMS technician N Samarendra, who is from Leimaram, rushed to the scene but slipped on the tiles and accidently hit Abdullah on the bridge of his nose.
While clarifying that Samarendra does not drink alcohol and performs his duty sincerely, Lamjingba decried suspension of Samarendra by RIMS authority without caring to conduct an enquiry.
Lamjingba also accused Abdullah of trying to whip up communal tension by posting his injury on the social media and contending that the incident is sectarian in nature.
As such RIMS and government authorities should investigate the matter minutely and punish the guilty accordingly, he demanded.
Lamjingba further cautioned that RIMS authority and government should revoke suspension of N Samarendra within five days failing which they will launch protest in consultation with other CSOs.
Meanwhile, Meipak Ningthou Committee (MNC), an apex body of AMESCO, AMMDO, AMMDC, PSO, MMWO, MSUM, UMPO, MYSU and AMWDO has condemned the use of derogatory language and assault on MMWO president Abdulla h Phundreirnayum by RIMS X-ray technician N Samarendra on June 8 .
In a release, MNC co-convener Arshad Baseimayum drew the attention of authority concerned and the government on such incidents happening with patients and patient parties frequently.
Authority concerned should conduct an enquiry against N Samarendra and take legal action against him, so that such incidents do not recur, it further demanded.
