Festival of Dance Drama & Ballet begins

Along with inaugurating a 3-day long 1st National Dance Drama & Ballet Festival being organized by Progressive Artiste Laboratory (PAL) under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of India at Lamboi Khongnagkhong, Uripok on May 21, the Guru Tarunkumar Memorial Gold Medal award was presented to Professor Y Hemantakumar.
The inaugural function of the festival cum award presentation was graced by L Nandakumar, MLA of Uripok A/C as Chief Guest; RK Danisana, president of PAL as functional President while RK Nimai, Commissioner (Arts & Culture) and Dr Sarojini as Guests of Honor.
Delivering key note address, Ratan Thiyam, Director of Chorus Repertory Theatre, Imphal and Chairman of National School of Drama (NSD), observed that many cultural festivals are being held in the State but organizing festival exclusive for dance and ballet is very rare.
He said that culture is an indispensable part of Manipur and so it must be developed and preserved.
Maintaining that many artistes have brought laurels to the State with their fine artistic works, he also underlined the need for providing more encouragement to artistes of the State.
