JD-U demands BJP to fulfill promises in poll manifesto

State JD-U president M Tombi today said he hopes that BJP will materialize its election manifesto and promises made to the public during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The State BJP's commitment made to the people of Manipur ahead of the national elections must be turned into reality now, M Tombi President, State unit of JD-U urged while addressing newsmen at his party office at Babupara here.
He pointed out that BJP in its election manifesto had promised to resolve a range of issues such as the disputed Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing, removal of the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), establishment of a highway protection force and repairing of Imphal-Jiribam road.
"I believe the BJP will meet all the assurances," Tombi said.
Saying that activist Irom Sharmila is on indefinite hunger strike for more than 13 years demanding revocation of AFSPA, the JD-U leader lamented that despite her legitimate movement the social activist has been put behind bars by the Government on the charge of attempting to commit suicide.
Informing that the human rights activist will be produced before the Patiala Court, New Delhi on May 29 in another case of suicide attempt, Tombi said he will be heading for the national capital on May 25 to help her meet the Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi.
During her latest routine court appearance here, the anti-AFSPA crusader expressed her desire to meet Narendra Modi when she visits New Delhi to present herself before the Patiala Court.
