Imphal, May 22 2014 :
With Trinamool Congress State unit president Kim Gangte determined to hold the post of party president until she is directed to abdicate by the party high command, a serious internal crisis has gripped the party.
A battle has been raging on within the party between two groups, one led by MLA Th Shyamkumar and the other led by MLA Kh Joykisan.
The two groups have been clamouring for the post of party president.
Out of the total seven MLAs, five MLAs and 19 executive members support Joykisan and they even announced that Joykisan has been elected president of TMC State unit.
"Since the party was set up in Manipur, party supremo Mamata Banerjee appointed me adhoc president and the same arrangement is still in force.
There is no reason for me to resign", stated former MP Kim Gangte during a press meet at Manipur Press Club today.
She went on to claim that she has been working to thrash out all differences and bring amity within the party.
"There was no grievance or ill-feeling between me and the MLAs.
To me, all of them are equal," Kim Gangte said.
Some MLAs intend to join BJP.
This triggered the race between two groups of MLAs for the post of party president.
She maintained that no one asked her to resign from the post of president nor has she sent any resignation letter to any one.
Kim Gangte said that she would resign from the post of president without any grudge if the party's high command ask her to do so and welcome the new president with camaraderie.
"Only the high command can remove from the post of president as I was appointed adhoc president since the party's State unit was opened," she asserted.
The party's constitution does not give any authority to MLAs or executive members to remove someone from the post of president.
The alleged appointment of a new president is clearly an anti-party activity.
The party has to wait for instruction from the high command before initiating necessary action against the dissidents.
A detailed report on the sudden development has been dispatched to the high command, said Kim Gangte while adding that she, as party president, has no authority to take action against the dissidents.
