Two poachers arrested, fined

While raiding two different sites, volunteers of People for Animal (PFA), Thoubal rescued different birds and secured the arrests of two poachers.
PFA raided at a river bank at Yairipok Yambem yesterday morning and succeeded in apprehending two poachers namely, Saukat Khuleibam S/O Hafi Khuleibam of Changamtabi Mayai Leikai and Moirangthem Jiban s/o (L) M.Irabot of Yambem Mayai Leikai.
In the raid, 8 Spotted Doves including two deceased were seized from the poachers, while a large bird net was also recovered from them.
The accused were handed over to the concerned forest officials who latter produced them before the court and sought remand for one day.
Later, they were made to pay a sum of 5 thousand rupees as fine, and the rescued doves are nurtured at PFA transit shelter as their wing feathers have been pulled off by the hunters.

In another raid in a paddy field at Sangaiyumpham, PFA along with a team of Thoubal police led by Sub-Inspector Churachand, rescued 3 Peasant tailed Jacana and a wild duck but the hunters managed to escape taking advantages of stagnant water of paddy fields and nearness to their village.
The joint team also found a bird net left by the hunters.
Meanwhile, one Jayanta of Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak handed over a Malayan box turtle to PFA.
He found it in a drain near his house.
On the other hand, as informed by Hiyanglam Police, PFA moved to Hiyanglam Hiramei Leikai and found a male Hog deer that was rescued by some locals.
Elengbam Nanao and Khumanthem Thoiba rescued the deer today morning when they were collecting cattle fodder.
The deer was released later at Keibul Lamjao National Park in Bishnupur district in the presence of Park officials.
The three Peasant tailed Jacana, rescued earlier were also released at the park.
