In the backdrop of the threat served by Kuki National Organization (KNO) to villagers of Tuibong Meetei Village, Churachandpur telling them to shift the Bijang Khunou Meetei Leikai Cemetery from the village to Khuga River, International Meetei Forum (IMF) has lodged complaints to UN and Chief Minister of the State urging them to intervene in the matter.
In a press meet here at Manipur Press Club, RK Rajendra, president of IMF, said that villagers had already filed complaint to Kuki INPI Churachandpur and DC of the district regarding the threat but no constructive response has been given so far which was unfortunate and informed that the IMF will also meet with the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him the matter.
Sagolshem Kala, chairman of Bijang Khunou Meetei Leikai Cemetery, who was also present during the press meet, said that cadres of KNO assaulted him for not shifting the cemetery on April 3 following which a complaint was filed to Kuki INPI Churachandpur and DC.
He stated that in the absence of any positive response, villagers were compelled to seek intervention of IMF.
A sit-in-protest was already staged jointly by IMF, Meetei Youths' Front Southeast Asia and Eramdam Lamjing Meira in condemnation of the threat on May 16 at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, he recalled.
