Clarion call given for conserving biodiversities

As observed in other parts of the world, International Day for Biological Diversity-2014 was observed by Directorate of Environment, Government of Manipur at Maharaj Chandrakriti Auditorium, Palace Compound here today.
The observance was attended by Chief Secretary of Manipur PC Lawmkunga as Chief Guest and Director of Environment Directorate Dr M Homeshwar as President, while Prof W Vishwanath and Prof PK Singh of Manipur University attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga said that global warming and climate change are some serious global issues.
Everyone should render all possible help and cooperation to conserve the biodiversities.
The recent water scarcity in the State was the fallout of environmental degradation.

He further appealed to all to plant more number of trees and make things eco-friendly in order to conserve the environment.
The theme of this year's International Day for Biological Diversity is "Island Biodiversity" .
The theme of "Island Biodiversity" was chosen to coincide with the designation by the United Nations General Assembly of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States.
In addition, the theme was chosen to correspond with the timing of COP decision XI/15 paragraph 1(a) "to strengthen the implementation of the Programme of Work on Island Biodiversity" .
Human Resource Development Centre, Mayang Imphal Chabung Company also observed International Day for Biological Diversity at St Anthony High School, Chingmeirong wherein around 65 students participated.
