Imphal, May 22 2014 :
JD(U) State unit has offered to help Irom Sharmila in her journey to meet Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi at Delhi.
As summoned by the Patiala Court, Delhi to appear before the Court for fasting at Delhi earlier, Sharmila has been preparing for a trip to Delhi on May 27 .
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, JD(U) State unit president M Tombi said that imprisonment of Irom Sharmila on the charge of attempting to commit suicide by the State Government is gross violation of all fundamental rights.
Sharmila earlier expressed her desire to travel to Delhi and convince Narendra Modi to repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
"A team of JD(U) led by myself would travel to Delhi on May 25 to help Sharmila meet the Prime Minister designate," Tombi said.
Claiming that JD(U) and many other political parties went together in Manipur in the 16th Lok Sabha election, Tombi exuded that major issues of the State would be addressed satisfactorily by the BJP-led NDA Government.
Some of the major issues like Indo-Myanmar border row, AFSPA, setting up of National Highway Protection Force, eradication of corruption, formulation of a long term employment policy and checking collection of illegal taxes along National highways were some of the points which figured prominently in BJP's election manifesto, Tombi reminded.
BJP ought to take up necessary measures in order to repair all worn out hanging bridges of all national highways, control prices of essential commodities and prevent collection of illegal road and goods taxes at Mao Gate by the group under ceasefire agreement with the Govt of India.
The two MPs from Manipur who are known for their non-performance would not be able to do anything in the next five years.
Even though the certificates of election given to them are respectable, they do not deserve any respect.
People know very well how they won the election, Tombi said.
