PFA on rescue drive

PFA Thoubal raided two sites and succeeded in rescuing different birds.
The PFA conducted a raid at a river bank at Yairipok Yambem yesterday morning and apprehended two poachers namely, Saukat Khuleibam S/o Hafi Khuleibam of Changamtabi Mayai Leikai and Moirangthem Jiban s/o (L) M Irabot of Yambem Mayai Leikai.
8 Spotted Doves including two dead ones were seized from them.
One large bird net was also recovered.
The accused were handed over to the forest officials concerned who later produced them before the relevant Court and sought remand for one day, the PFA said in a press statement.
A sum of Rs 5000 was slapped as fine after they were re-produced before the Court today.
The doves are nurtured at PFA transit shelter as their wing feather were pulled off by the hunters.
In the evening, PFA raided a paddy field at Sangaiyumpham along with a team of Thoubal police led by an SI.
Although the hunters managed to escape, the joint team rescued 3 Peasant tailed Jacanas and a wild duck left by the hunters.
Meanwhile, a person Jyanta of Thoubal Pakhangkhong leirak also handed over a Malayan box turtle to PFA.
He found it in a drain near his house.
Today Hiyanglam Police station informed PFA that a displaced deer was rescued by some locals.
The PFA immediately moved to Hiyanglam Hiramei leikai and found a male Hog deer.
Elangbam Nanao and Khumanthem Thoiba rescued the deer today morning when they were collecting fodder.
Inspector Ibopishak OC of Hiyanglam PS comes to the spot and helped PFA take over the animal.
The deer was immediately taken to Keibul Lamjao National Park of Bishnupur and released there.
The three Peasant tailed Jacanas were also released in the park while the wild duck is treated at the PFA shelter, it added.
