Imphal, May 22 2014 :
Consumers' Club, Manipur has expressed concern over dismissing a case filed by the club in favour of a consumer at District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Imphal.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Consumers' Club Manipur General Secretary N Purnachandra said that on May 21, 2013, the club received a complaint from Konjengbam Hemchandra of Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai regarding charging excess amount of Rs 10,610 by Evershine Shop, Thangal Bazar while purchasing some sanitary goods worth Rs 33,000 on May 17, 2013 .
Saying that the shop issued 'estimate challan' instead of cash memo to Hemchandra, the General Secretary alleged that MRP labels of these goods were found erased and it came to the notice of Hemchandra that excess amount was charged by the shop.
It was pertinent to mention here that Hemchandra bought one item namely, 'Health Faucets with CP Tube and Hook,' from Manipur Marble House, MG Avenue on June 13, 2013 .
The price printed on MRP label was Rs 768, but the shop sold the item to Hemchandra at Rs 600, Purnachandra said.
On the other hand, the same item with same company and brand was sold at Rs 975 by Evershine Shop to the complainant, Purnachandra said and added that it clearly proved that the shop has been indulging in 'unfair trade practice' on the people of Manipur for long which is a violation of the Package Commodities Rule 1977 .
Later, Hemchandra took a price list from Manipur Marble House for the same items he purchased from Evershine Shop and found that an excess amount of Rs 10,610 was allegedly charged by the shop when he bought items worth Rs 33,000, the General Secretary said.
In favour of the complainant, the Consumers' Club, Manipur petitioned the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Imphal to penalise Evershine Shop on September 20, 2013, Purnachandra said and added that the Forum however dismissed the plea citing the reason of lack of evidence and merit.
Expressing serious concern over the matter, Purnachandra said that the matter was again complained to the State Commission on May 13, 2014 .
