Govt urged to expedite NH-37 road Job

All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union (Drivers' Union) secretary M Anil Meitei has urged the state government to give special attention towards early completion of NH-37 road development works while maintaining that bad condition of the road not only creates problems but is also claiming lives of many drivers.
A team of the Drivers' Union and representatives of Sadar Hills Inland Transport and Drivers' Union retrieved the body of driver Than-gun Kipgen (52), who was killed in a road accident near Awang Khunou Part-1 along NH-37 road on Wednesday.
The team brought Thangun's body in an ambulance and conducted the last rites at his native village in Kang-pokpi after the post mortem at RIMS morgue.
Regarding the road accident, Anil Meitei said that the condition of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) road has worsened with the coming of rainy season and drivers operating along the road have started to encounter various problems.
He said that 3/4 drivers lost their lives due to accident along the road in recent time.
He then urged the state government to give special attention and give directive to relevant authority/ agency for early completion of road development works.
Anil Meitei further said that the Drivers' Union deeply condoles the demise of driver Thangun Kipgen and shares pain and grief of his bereaved family.
On behalf of the Drivers' Union, Anil Meitei also thanked Noney PS OC in-charge and youth of Awang Khul for their help after the accident and in transportation of Thangun Kipgen's body to Imphal.
