The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has strongly decried the allegedly excessive exam fees charged for 2nd semester BA, 4th semester BSc and 6th semester BCom examinations set to be conducted by the Manipur University.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference held today at KSA head office, Sinam James Khuman, general secretary, KSA urged the relevant authorities to monitor the situation wherein colleges affiliated with MU are allegedly charging examination form fill up fees according to their whims.
He added that the student body will start keeping a check on the exam form fill up fees charged by colleges associated with KSA.
Referring to the examination fees, he claimed that in the previous semester, Rs 1050 was charged for Arts stream as compared to the Rs 1800 being charged this semester.
For Science subjects, which comes with practical exams, the amount charged this semester at some colleges is Rs 3800, which is a stark increase from last semester's alleged fee of Rs 1750, he maintained.
Stating that the reported increase in examination fees is a burden to students from financially poor households, the KSA general secretary also called upon the college authority to clarify why the examination fees were increased excessively.
In view of the above anomalies in charging of excessive examination fees, the student body urged the authorities concerned to probe the matter and streamline the charging of fees in various educational institutions across the State for the welfare of students.
