In the on going crackdown on drugs, police apprehended three individuals including a couple along with huge consignment of drugs from different parts of Kakching district in the last 24 hours.
A team of Kakching district commando led by OC Subedar S Birla and SI Th Robindro intercepted a drug trafficker couple during routine frisking at Serou Lamkhai area on Thursday night.
They were travelling in a Bolero vehicle (MN07D-1206) in which the team found heroin packed in 110 soap caps and weighing 1.426 kg.
The couple has been identified as Mangkhup Haokip (36) and his wife Lamkhoneng Haokip (29) of Tuitung Khul, Chakpikarong.
They along with the seized drugs and vehicle have been handed over to Sugnu police station for further legal actions.
On the other hand, Sugnu PS team, during a routine patrol in Zou Veng area, arrested a 22-year old drug peddler along with 139 grams of heroin on Thursday around 3 pm.
The arrested individual has been identified as Chingkholhing Haokip (22) wife of Lalpi Zou of T Zoumun village.
Police source said that Chingkholhing was travelling with another woman, and they ran towards a nearby house, which belongs to one Nengshon Zou (60) wife of late Paoson Zou of Zou Veng, on seeing the police patrol.
Suspicious about their nature, the police team went to the house and detained Chingkholhing while the other fled the scene.
Upon questioning, she disclosed that she supplies drugs to some drug users in Sugnu area.
Upon her disclosure, police also learnt that the absconding woman is Nengshon Zou, owner of the house.
Police found heroin packed in 19 'Khaini' cans in her handbag, which weighed 139 grams.
An FIR has been registered against her and the absconding woman at Sugnu PS while investigation is on to nab the other drug peddler, the source added.
Chinkholhing reportedly admitted to supplying heroin to youths in and around Sugnu area.
An amount of Rs 47330 in total was also found in her handbag.
"The drug peddlers and mafia have started using new faces, particularly housewives from lowered middle-class families to evade coming under the radar of the police," said a police officer on the condition of anonymity.
