Imphal, April 07 2023:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has termed as unreasonable hiking of examination and form submission fees in colleges affiliated to Manipur University, as well as the mandatory one-time fee system of Maria Montes-sori School, Koirengei.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises, Khoy-athong here on Friday, KSA external affairs secretary Si-nam James Khuman said that colleges affiliated to Manipur University are charging exorbitant examination & form submission fees without any rationale.
Sudden hike in these fees without any reasonable explanation is affecting many students, he said, while terming the fee hike as an act of converting educational'institutions into commercial enterprises.
Demanding an explanation on the unprecedented hiking of fees from the authority concerned, the secretary asked the authority not to invite protest from the students.
On the other hand, KSA, in a statement, said that there are several private schools, whose sole motive is to derive huge profit from students and stressed the need for a regulatory mechanism to check fees being charged by private schools from their students.
It cited Maria Montessori School, Koirengei as an example stating that the school is making it mandatory for parents to make one-time payment of the entire fee amount of an academic year including admission and monthly fees.
Such rider from the school authority gives a huge burden to parents, most of whom are struggling to make both ends meet, as making one-time payment of around Rs 50,000 at the time of admission would create a huge financial problem to them, the statement said, while drawing attention of the government to look into the matter.
