Student bodies demand upgrade of University of Culture

Imphal, June 28 2022: Six student bodies namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS have urged the state government to exert pressure on the centre for upgrading Manipur University of Culture to a central university.

In a release, presidents of the six bodies said that Manipur settled by different ethnic groups has been a gateway for Indian sub-continents, South East Asia and eastern countries since ages.

While pointing out that Manipur has been a cultural connectivity for various regions, the release maintained that cultural elements of South East Asian countries are reflected in Manipur through the process of cultural syncretisation of Eastern Hindus, South East Asians and indigenous cultures.

The bodies also stated that as Manipur occupies a large space in the held of perform ing arts, sports and culture in the world, there is urgent need to set up different departments for different cultures of the state and also for different subjects, languages and scripts to conduct thorough research in Manipur University of Culture.

As such, the release urged the state government to exert pressure on the central government for upgrade of Manipur University of Culture to a central university in order to level up into a world class cultural institute.
