Bishnupur, June 28 2022:
M Somorjit Luwang, general secretary DESAM, has urged the State Government to address the lack of teachers and construct new classrooms of Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School.
He appealed to the State Government to recruit the required teachers before the students of Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School return to school after summer vacation on July 16 .
The demands were made by the general secretary during a rally taken out by the students of Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School from the school to Kumbi Keithel organised by the Co-ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand, Manipur today.
It may be noted that Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School teaches students from Nursery to Class VIII with 500 students currently enrolled in the school.
However, the school has only 7 teachers in stark comparison with the school requirement of 15 government teachers.

In view of this deplorable condition, Khangembam Indrakumar, SMC and headmaster-in-charge has personally appointed 9 teachers on contract basis out of his own pocket in the interest of the students.
With regards to the infrastructure of the school, the classrooms are reportedly too small to fit all the students.
There is a lack of desks, benches, clean water for students and a little rainfall results in the school compound turning into a mud field.
Speaking from the sideline of the rally, M Somorjit added that the initiatives launched by the Government under School Fagathansi' mission hardly ever benefit rural schools like Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School.
A class VIII student of the school, Leishangthem Ambra, reiterated the demands urging the Government to fulfil them in the interest of the students and their academic career.
