Imphal, June 28 2022:
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Directorate of Agriculture Manipur and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Corporation Limited on Tuesday organised a 'Farmers' Claim Disbursement Programme for Crop Insurance Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) Kharif 2021'.The programme was held at Farmers Training Hall, Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong.
Speaking at the function as chief guest, agriculture minister Th Biswajit Singh reminded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme as agriculture is an important sector, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and allied sectors.
The minister suggested the department concerned to erect hoarding in every place/village so that the benefits of the scheme can be availed by the farmers of the state.
He then said that if there is any shortage of fund for erecting such hoardings, process for funding could be applied to the planning department.
Biswajit also advised the department concerned to install hoardings, distribute Information Education & Communication (IEC) materials and upload about the scheme on social media before the scheme lapses on July 31, 2022.The minister also clarified on the issue of fertiliser in the state stating that the department held a meeting to curb the situation.
Recently the department seized fertilisers that were brought from other states.
The department has not issued fertilisers for black marketing but for distributing them to the farmers, Th Biswajit further said as he asked the farmers to inform the department if they come across such kind of activities.
He dispelled farmers' concern about fertiliser shortage, saying that thousands of metric tonnes of fertilisers are allocated to the state but due to recent flood and landslide in the neighbouring state, they could not be transported as of now, adding that the state has sufficient stock of fertilizers.
The minister then said that the government is trying to make an arrangement for providing fertilisers to the farmers through authentication of the owner of the field.
In the meantime, he opined that farmers should minimise the use of fertilisers in production of agricultural crops and also take note of the health of the public instead of gaining profit.
As part of the programme, Ashash Agarwal, president & head of Agri Business Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co Ltd presented a cheque of Rs 1,47,50,363 to minister Th Biswajit for Farmers' Claim Disbursement Programme for Crop Insurance Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) Kharif 2021 for the state.
