Resumption of sports activities soon: Chandel DC

Chandel district deputy commissioner (DC) Rajkumar Mayanglambam has said that sports activities will resume soon in Chandel district after a long layoff due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Rajkumar disclosed this on the sidelines of social service conducted in connection with the observance of National Cleanliness Day (Gandhi Jayanti) jointly by the district administration, district police, 8 Manipur Rifles, 18 Assam Rifles and District Sports Association, at Mini Sports Complex, Chandel town on Saturday.
Ground, gallery and different buildings in the Mini Sports Complex have been overgrown with tall grasses due to the long layoff of sports activities.
However, the district administration has taken up the initiative of clearing tall grasses after the matter was raised by District Sports Association and conducted a mass cleanliness drive on Saturday.
Around 300 people which included DLOs and staff of different departments, SP Chandel Lourembam Deben and personnel of district po lice, 8 MR Manipur Rifles CO and team, 18 Assam Rifles CO Col Ajit Khatri and personnel, DSA Chandel president Ts Chamna Anal and his team, representatives of DSA Chandel affiliated clubs, Nehru Yuva Kendra Chandel, personnel of 12 Battalion NDRF and villagers took part in the mass cleanliness drive.
With the cleaning up of the Mini Sports Complex, the district administration will consider holding sports activities at the complex if COVID-19 situation improves at satisfactory level, Rajkumar added.
Mention may be made here that DC Chandel and DSA Chandel president Ts Chamna Anal signed an MOU on September 22 to resume DCs Trophy Football Tournament.
