Tonga varsity awards PhD to state duo

Social activist Khangembam Priyojit has been conferred with Honorary Doctorate (PhD) degree by the Commonwealth Vocational University of the Kingdom of Tonga.
The prestigious honour was presented to Priyojit during convocation cum Digital Education Summit of the university held at Hotel Radisson, Gurugram Udyog Vihar, Haryana on Saturday.
The convocation was attended by Maldives's minister of state for education Dr Abdula Rashid Ahmad as chief guest and Major Harsh Kumar, secretary NCRT, Government of India as guest of honour.
Priyojit is son of Khangembam Mani Meitei and-Achou Leima of Tentha Khongbal, Thoubal district.
Born in 1970, Priyojit is currently Zilla Parishad member of Wangjing Tentha.
He completed Weapons Course at the Military Head Quarters of War (MHOW) and was the training instructor while he was a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO).
After retiring from service, Priyojit became the chief functionary of North East India Security Service (NEISS) and currently serves as chairman and managing director of Khapri Industries Pvt Ltd.
He is an entrepreneur cum social activist.
Another social worker namely Khundrakpam Kanba Meitei was also presented the Honorary Doctorate Award - 2021 by Common Wealth Vocational University, Kingdom of Tonga during its convocation organised on the occasion of the Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
The award was also conferred during the Gurugram event.
Kanba is the son of Kh Shyamkishore and Thoibi of Taothong Khu-nou Thamnapokpi, Lamsang Kendra.
Kanba is currently involved in humanitarian works.
