National seminar on NE tourism development begins

Almost at the same time of the International Tourism Mart which is underway at Guwahati, a Two-Day National Seminar on Tourism in Northeast India : Problems, Potentials and Prospects has begun from today at Manipur Press Club here today.
The seminar which will go on till tomorrow is being organised by Ereima Gender Empowerment & Resource Centre (EGERC) under the sponsorship of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.
The seminar was formally inaugurated by Minister of PHE, Government of Manipur I Hemochandra Singh as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Hemochandra dwelt at length on the pertinence of a collaborative engagement of different stakeholders to understand and promote tourism in the region and called for the need to tap the tourism potential of the region so that the region leads in the map of tourism sector.
Prof.Lal Dena of Manipur University who attended the function as Guest of Honour, highlighted how tourism as a major industry has emerged in the northeast India.
He shared that the growth of tourism industry in the region needs to have a broader perspective of taking into consideration of tapping the tourism potentials with the neighbouring countries.

& President, Manipur Tourism Forum said that there should be more participation of Manipur in the tourism industry.
For the growth of tourism sector, there are needs for infrastructural development, accommodation facilities, sensitive tourism mindset and public-private partnership, said Dr.Dhabali.
Prof.G.P.Prasain, Department of Commerce, Manipur University (Role of Tourism in Entrepreneurship Development in Manipur); Dr..NSurjit Singh, Department of Political Science, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University(Look East Policy: Promoting Tourism in the North-East India); Jiten Yumnam, Centre For Research Advocacy( Corporatization of Tourism); Dr..AManglem, Department of Geography, Manipur University (Reconceptualising Tourism Strategy in Manipur: Improving Law and Order for Tourism Promotion); Dr.Lunghim Rongmei, Department of Geography, Manipur University (Problems and Prospects of Tourism) presented their papers as resource persons in the Technical Sessions of the first day.
