Death of motorist in mishap; Auto service banned in Khongjom area

Imphal, January 21 2013:
Following the death of a motorist and injuring of a pillion rider in a mishap involving an autorickshaw at Uningkhong, the adjoining place of Wangjing and Khongjom, in Thoubal district on January 14 around 3pm, the Apunba Nupi Kanglup, Sapam Mayai Leikai has imposed a ban on plying/service of any kind of autorickshaw in Khongjom area along NH-2 with immediate effect.
The women body has also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to any person who can identify the autorickshaw involved in the collision case.
A motorist from Khongjom Sapam Mayai Leikai, identified as Mayengbam Shyamo Singh was killed on the spot at Uningkhong when the Activa scooter he and a co-rider were riding collided with an autorickshaw on January 14 .
His co-rider, Mayengbam Iboyai has been hospitalised due to grave injury.
The identity of the autorickshaw could neither be identified yet nor did the operator surrender.
A statement signed by the president and secretary of Apunba Nupi Kanglup, Mayai Leikai informed that the decision to ban the service of any type of autorickshaw in Khongjom area was reached at a meeting of meira paibis and local populace today.
The ban would be effective till the autorisckshaw involved in the incident is identified by the Government authority as well as the Autorickshaw association, the statement said.
At the same time, it also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who can identify or help in identifying the autorickshaw involved in the case.
