Fire safety drill

With the primary objective of imparting knowledge on fire safety measures to teachers and students, a team of Manipur Fire Service conducted a fire and evacuation drill at Maria Montessori Senior Secondary School, Koirengei today.
The drill was organised under the directive of Directorate General Civil Defence.
Applications of various fire control equipments were shown to the teachers and students during the drill.
Speaking on today's programme, Manipur Fire Service, Imphal Station Officer L Nabachandra said, in view of the fire tragedies occurred in the schools of Dadwali, Haryana in 1995 and Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu in 2004, such drills are conducted in selected schools all over the country on this day under the supervision of Union Home Ministry and Civil Defence.

The drills educate the teachers and students on safety measures of the self and others during a fire tragedy.
Nabachandra urged the gathering to understand the numbers of emergency services including fire service, insure oneself in fire and natural calamities insurance schemes, maintain first aid kits and fire extinguishers at right places.
He also appealed the general public to strictly follow the safety guidelines in the construction of schools, houses and other buildings.
Principal of the school, Suchitra Potshangbam and her staff lauded the Manipur Fire Service for conducting the drill at the school.
