Imphal, January 21 2013:
A man has killed his aunt by hitting her with a chaku (an iron chain whose ends are fixed to either wooden or steel handles) at Poirou Khongjin under Yairipok police station in Imphal East district last night.
A police source identified the deceased as one Laishram (o) Sakhitombi (58) w/o Shamungou of Poirou Khongjin Mayai Torban Leikai.
After dinner at about 8 pm, Sakhitombi and her daughter-in-law Anuradha went out to have pan at the shop opened at their residential gate.
The shop was owned by Anuradha and her husband Shantikumar.
As they came out, their cousin Laishram Raj (29) s/o Ramo started abusing them using vulgar words.
This led to a physical fight between Shantikumar and Raj.
Ramo is Shamungou's younger brother.
Raj pulled out a chaku and started thrashing Shantikumar.
In the next moment, Raj's elder brother Meina (37) too joined
the fight.
As Sakhitombi rushed in to intervene and stop the fight, she was hit by Raj's chaku on the mouth and she fell flat on the ground.
Even as she was immediately rushed to Yairipok CHC, Sakhitombi succumbed to the injuries on the way.
A meeting of the locality was held the same night in connection with the killing but it could not arrive at any concrete decision.
Meanwhile, Ramo was pulled from Kaina this morning in connection with yesterday's incident.
While Ramo was staying at Kaina, his two sons were staying at Poirou Khongjin.
Whereas Raj has surrendered to police this afternoon, Meina has absconded.
In connection with the meeting, another public meeting was held this morning at Poirou Khongjin Veterinary ground.
Soon after the meeting, a mob dismantled the houses of Raj and Meina.
Ramo's house at Kaina was also vandalised.
The corpse of the deceased is currently at JNIMS morgue even as a case has been registered at Yairipok police station.
