Imphal, January 21 2013:
Peeved at the alleged failure of the authority to sanction pending amounts of fund for organising a study tour, students of ITI, Takyelpat today staged a sit in protest within the institute's premises.
The protesting students have also locked the gate of the Institute.
However, police dispersed the demonstrators and opened the Gate later.
Talking to reporters, the agitating students said that study tour has been a part of the curricula and marks obtained in the study tour has also be assessed in the marksheet.
As such, such study tour is normally organised in October/November every year.
However, for the academic year 2011-12, 50 percent of fund (Rs 16,00,000) earmarked for the tour was encashed in May.
Due to incomplete encashment of the sanctioned fund, study tour for the year 2011-12 could not be organised till date.
On two occasions, the students' body had also submitted a memorandum to the concerned authority (Labour Commissioner) for the immediate encashment of the pending bill, but of no avail, they lamented.
They were told that sanctioning of fund is against a cabinet decision.
The students also complaint that they did not even receive full amount of stipends entitled to them besides many infrastructure lacks of the institute.
The students also draw the attention of the concerned authority to redress their grievances immediately.
