Ex-MLA Hangkhanpau declares candidature

Janata Dal (United) organised a workers' meet for Tuivai area on Friday at the Indo-Myanmar border village of Tonjang under Churachandpur district.
Janata Dal (United) Manipur president and ex-MLA Hangkhanpau Taithul, who is preparing to contest election under party's ticket in Singhat AC, Janata Dal (United) state unit vice president Rojit alias Bullet Singh, JD (U) Manipur senior vice president Limjalet Haokip, JD (U) Manipur chief general secretary M Dorendro Singh, general secretary (organisation) Rabikant Meitei and other leaders of the party took part in the workers' meet.
JD (U) executive leaders from different tribes and communities who attended the meet shared their thoughts on why Hangkhanpau should contest the 2022 election.
Some leaders suggested that there is need for change of mindset and approach while some leaders stressed the need for empowerment of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) and protection of tribal lands.
Hangkhanpau then announced his decision to contest in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Singhat AC in compliance with the desire and wish of the majority Zomis after proper retrospection of his calibre.
He also promised to bring unity among.Zomis if elected and end enmity among people of the community.
