Daily cases, TPR rise; one succumbs

A day after the state logged its second lowest test positivity rate of 2.90 per cent and recorded significant drop in daily cases with only 53 persons contracting the infectious disease, both TPR and daily cases rose to 4.0 per cent and 83 cases respectively on Friday while one patient from Chandel district succumbed.
The lone fatality took the state's cumulative death toll from the disease to 1919 out of 1,23,609 persons infected during both waves of the contagion so far.
The victim had the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and had co-morbid conditions.
As per the daily government's status update on Covid-19, a total of 2064 samples were tested out of which Imphal West district registered the highest number of infected persons at 35 cases followed by 25 in Imphal East district.
Other districts from where positive cases were reported in the past 24 hours included Thoubal (4), Bishnupur (5), Kakching (2), Ukhrul 6, Kangpokpi (2), Tengnoupal (2) and Tamenglong (1) .
There were no infections in Chandel, Churachandpur, Jiribam, Kamjong, Noney and Pherzawl districts in the same time span during which 53 patients were also discharged from home isolation (8), RIMS (5), JNIMS (3) and CCCs (37).Friday's positive cases comprised 79 persons from among the general population and four personnel of central armed police force (CAPF) and their status were confirmed at RIMS (9), JNIMS (8) and other testing centres (66) .
For the record, the daily TPR had dropped to an encouraging 2.90 per cent on Thursday against Wednesday's figure of 3.55 per cent.
As reported, the TPR crossed the 3 pc mark for first time after onset of the second wave on April 3 while on the preceding day it was only 1.97 pc.
Meanwhile, in terms of positivity rate on Friday, Tengnoupal district saw the highest TPR at 33.3 pc with two persons confirmed positive for Covid-19 out of 6 samples tested while Senapati district recorded lowest positivity rate at 0.5 per cent.
There are 842 active cases as on Friday while the recovery rate marginally dropped to 97.74 per cent against 97.77 per cent on Thursday.
So far, the state has recorded 94,209 positive cases and 1545 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.
The ' current month has recorded 3025 new cases and 64 fatalities out of which 558 new cases and 14 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone.
According to official reports, the cumulative number of positive cases include 1,I9,298 from among the general population and 4331 CAPF personnel.
Number of recovered cases is 1,20,819.A total of 564 D-type and 127 B-type Oxygen cylinders were distributed to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.
As many as 10,719 vaccine doses were administered on Thursday taking the cumulative number of vaccinated persons to 19,38,003 including 6,91,604 who have received both doses.
