Imphal, October 29 2021:
Leaders of several Ima Lup (women activists) in the state have pledged support to Thounaojam Brinda, who is planning to contest the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Yaiskul AC,
during a function held at the office of Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO), Lamboikhongnangkhong on Friday.
The function was also attended by leaders and members of UMO, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi Ima Lup, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima lup and AH Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation.
Speaking at the event, Th Brinda opined that a well-developed society is possible only when both men and women are on equal platforms.
The society, at present, is at a dangerous juncture and as such, women need to take part in the decision-making process to rectify all evils.
She then said that her goal is to strengthen the bonds among different communities of the state.
Stating that women are not at fault for taking part in the money-for-vote activities being carried out during the polls; Brinda said that this is because corruption is in full swing in the society.
Thus, womenfolk must stay far away from corrupt practices to prevent such a situation, she urged.
AMDDA president and UMO advisor TM Rajen Ayangba, UMO president M Soro Leima, Nupi Samaj president Ramani Leima and AMKIL vice president Nganbi Leima also attended the function, wherein they gave blessings to Brinda.
