Firing incidents grip parts of Yairipok, protests staged

One woman was rushed to JNIMS after she was reportedly hurt in a firing incident last midnight at Yairipok Changamdabi under Andro police station.
The firing incident took place at around 12.30 am during which one Bembem (35), wife of Md Abdul Gaffar of Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai sustained injury on her hand after a bullet penetrated through the roof and hit her while she was sleeping.
A complaint regarding the incident has been lodged at Andro police station.
The reason for the light night firing however could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
Condemning the incident, residents of Changamdabi Mathak Leikai staged a sit in protest at the locality's community hall today.
President of Changamdabi Muhammadan Club (CMC) Md Anish Shah, said that the Club strongly condemns the late night firing within residential areas and injuring one of the local residents.
The act of terror is totally uncalled for, he said and sought the earliest response from those involved in the dastardly activity.
He also drew the attention of Chief Minister N Biren who also holds the Home portfolio to intervene and help book the perpetrators at the earliest.
If culprits are not booked in time and justice is not delivered, the club along with various civil society organisations will launch protests, he continued.
Placards reading " we condemn firing within residential areas", "do not terrorize people", "book and punish the culprits at the earliest" etc during the protest.
Lai Committee denounces gunfire at Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai In the meantime, Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai Lai Committee also condemned gunfire in residential area yesterday and last midnight and urged the State Government to take up necessary security measures to avoid such incidents.
In a press release issued by the Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai Lai Committee president, mobile miscreants fired several rounds of firearms suspected to be AK-47 and double barrel guns from Yambem Mathak till Yambem Makha Leikai Khongnang Makhong.
A team of Andro police station paid a spot visit and recovered empty cases of bullets reportedly fired by the miscreants for investigation, the release said.
The committee president also urged the authority concerned to book the miscreants at the earliest.
It may be noted that, the Imphal East DC has recently clamped Section 144 of the CrPC following some incidents of poll related violence involving firearms in parts of Andro AC .
