Imphal, May 19 2015 :
Konjeng Hajari Leikai Development Committee has made a fervent appeal to the residents of neighbouring Keishamthong Hodam Leirak in Imphal West to allow continuation of improvement work on the crematorium ground located at the mouth of the Hodam Leirak.
The appeal comes after some individuals of Hodam Leirak allegedly obstructed the crematorium improvement work.
The locals of Konjeng Hajari Leikai have been using the crematorium ground measuring about 0.7 acre since 1908, claimed Konjeng Hajari Leikai Development Committee general secretary Moirangthem Ibomcha during a press meet at the locality on Tuesday.
He said obstructing the restoration work on the crematorium ground is unwarranted.
Ibomcha said the State Government has taken away some portion of the ground for the Tiddim road expansion programme and that locals of Konjeng Hajari Leikai have been restoring the leftover portion.
He also appealed to the Keishamthong Hodam Leirak Yumjao Lairembi Meira Paibi Nupi Lup not to take side unilaterally over the issue.
The committee leader further pointed out that an interim order dated February 17, 2006 issued by the Gauhati High Court allows the residents of Konjeng Hajari Leikai to use the crematorium ground as usual.
