Imphal, May 19 2015 :
Drafting of a Manipur Transport Policy has been completed and officials are working to table the draft at a Cabinet so that the same can be implemented as soon as possible, stated Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar.
Speaking to media persons at a felicitation programme of HSLC Exam 2015 position holders from Mayang Imphal A/C at his Secretariat South Block office today, Dr Ratankumar said that the transport policy was drafted in view of the ever multiplying number of vehicles.
On being enquired about JNURM semi-low floor buses, Dr Ratankumar said that the buses should be leased out and operated by private agencies but no private firms have come forward so far.
As of now, a few semi-low floor buses are operating on a couple of selected routes.
These buses are used during Sangai Festival, Khongjom and other State functions.
These buses can also be hired during National and international sports tournaments and conferences, added Ratankumar.
Perhaps JNURM semi-low floor bus service is not popular enough because of introduction of van service provided by Winger and Magic vans on the same routes which can reach more remote areas, added the Minister.
Moreover, road condition of Imphal and greater Imphal areas is not very suitable for the semi-low floor buses, Ratankumar noted.
