Time over for retrial of BJP: Ibobi
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, February 16 2022: While stating that it is no longer the moment for the state to undergo another trial of the BJP government, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi has urged for bringing Manipur out of the shadows it has been under for the past 5 years and into the light.

He made the statement during the flag hoisting ceremony of Uripok INC candidate Nunglepam Mahananda Singh along with a one-day political conference organised by Uripok Block Congress Committee at the residence of Mahananda in Uripok Bachaspati Leikai on Wednesday.

Ibobi said that majority of the people in Uripok circle fall under the intellectual circle, not to mention the constituency is considered as a stronghold of Congress.

The party along with other like-minded political parties had formed an alliance to free Manipur and the entire country from the clutches of BJP and its accomplices.

In addition, BJP should understand what the educated of Uripok AC truly thinks about it.

PM Modi and his government have announced many schemes till date.

However, it is fact that most of the footwork had already been done by Congress.

What BJP has done is simply renaming the works as their own, he said, while questioning what the party has done for Uripok aside from publicity, propaganda and false promises.

He continued: "Prior to Narendra Modi becoming the PM and the advent of BJP government in the state, Imphal City was always ranked first or second in terms of cleanliness.

The city was developed extensively under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission.

However, the present government claims credit for it including that of Ima Market, BT flyover, etc., which is highly embarrassing.

It is also uncertain whether the Solid Waste Management Plant in Lamdeng is still functioning or not.

"Furthermore, the present government was formed forcefully and unconstitutionally.

The Governor did not "interfere" the candidates who won via Congress ticket and later defected.

Thus, everything touched by this dishonest government has failed miserably.

If the BJP government is allowed to continue to exist, the future of Manipur will be in danger.

Prices of essential items are on the rise, cooking gases are distributed one day and sold the next.

Meanwhile, the parliament had already passed a free and compulsory education as a constitutional right.

However, BJP has renamed it and introduced it as 'New Education Policy'.

The continuance of the central BJP government will only push the middle class people into more hardships", he remarked.

Ibobi then said that the ruling government cannot accept any criticism and detain its critics under NSA.

As such, the press, intellectuals and the public are afraid of speaking out their opinions, which is a clear sign of a dictatorial and undemocratic system.

In addition, BJP does not want representation of women in the electoral process.

It also has failed to encourage democracy from the grass root level.

Thus, he urged the people to give Congress the opportunity to rectify all of these issues, while demanding BJP to clarify the reason for not holding the Imphal Municipal Corporation, without using the pandemic as an excuse.

In his speech, Mahananda expressed belief that Congress will win big in the upcoming polls and assured to develop Lamphel into a tourist spot.

He also assured to encourage skill development of Uripok youth and the entrepreneurs as well.

AICC general secretary Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das also attended the conference.

Okram Ibobi also attended a one-day political conference organised by Khundrakpam Block Congress Committee at PYC Ground, Sagolmang on Wednesday.

In his address, the former CM said that the Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA) of Congress and left parties will save the state and its people from BJP.

Ibobi contended that Ujwaila Scheme is a propaganda of helping the public while in reality, the BJP government is forcing the public to buy LPG at high price by providing cylinder and some accessories at free of cost.

It became a national issue when the UPA government hiked the LPG price from Rs 400 to 600 but today, the LPG price has reached Rs 1200.Similarly, prices of petrol and diesel have also been hiked.

This policy is nothing but a systematic genocide of the poor people, he said while adding that the alliance was formed by Congress and left parties with the objective to save the people of the state from BJP.

He also said that Khundrakpam assembly constituency is lucky to have a leader like MLA Th Lokeshwar, who is committed to bring development.

Speaking on the occasion, AICC northeast in-charge Bhakta Charan Das charged BJP of making sweet promises without any commitment to fulfil them.

Despite the bold promise of household tap water connection, the people of the state are still getting no such facilities.

The BJP government has also failed to fulfil its promise for creating jobs, he said while urging the public to no longer believe in the lies of BJP.

In his address, MLA Lokeshwar slammed the BJP government for not delivering its promises to the public.

The party sees election as a leisure game.

According to MPCC president MLA N Loken, the political journey of chief minister N Biren is nearing its end and called upon the people to stay alert from the false promises of BJP.
