Minister Nemcha stress significance of cultural identity

Textiles, Commerce & Industries, and Cooperation minister Nemcha Kipgen strongly emphasised the importance of cultural identity during the Cultural Meet of Saitu Gamphazol Area Youth Organization (SGAYO) held as part of its annual sports meet.
The 34th Annua.l Sports Meet-cum-Cultural Meet of SGAYO was held at G Son-glung village in the Saitu Gamphazol area.
It is worth recalling that Saitu Gamphazol Area Youth Organization along with United Saparmeina Youth Club had jointly embarked on cleaning the Imphal river as part of the government's initiative "Clean Imphal River" campaign in October last year.
The chief minister had posted on his Facebook page appreciating the SGAYO and USYC for supporting the Clean Imphal River1 campaign right after their activities of cleaning the Imphal River.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen attended SGAYO's Cultural Meet as chief guest while the local MLA, Haokholet Kipgen attended the event as functional president.
Addressing the gathering comprising mostly youths from more than 40 villages under Saitu Gamphazol area, Nemcha Kipgen strongly emphasised the significance of cultural identity among the youth, saying that cultural identity, in addition to its intrinsic value, provides important social and economic benefits and with improved learning and health, increases tolerance and opportunities to come together with others.
She also said that culture enhances our quality of life and increases overall well-being for both individuals and communities while adding that culture is the lifeblood of a vibrant society, expressed in many ways telling, stories, celebrating, remembering the past, entertaining ourselves, and imagining the future.
"Our cultural identity influences how we interpret and react to situations, so we must become aware of our identity in relation to the world around us," the minister added.
Commending the leaders of SGAYO for organising such a cultural meet as part of its annual sports meet, the minister said, "Culture helps to create a sense of unity and shared purpose, and can be a source of great pride and inspiration" .
Nemcha also reiterated her tireless campaign on the 'War on Drugs', urging the people of the Saitu Gamphazol area not to indulge in cultivating deadly poppy plants.
Meanwhile, MLA Haokholet Kipgen assured of widening and renovation of the Saitu Gamphazol road and urged the people for a collective effort.
