Awangbow assures help to storm-hit families

Kakching, April 15 2022:
Heavy rain accompanied by gutsy wind which hit some parts of the state on the intervening night of April 14 and 15 destroyed several houses and uprooted trees in some villages of Kakching district.
Around 300 houses in Pangantabi, Chairel and Wangoo areas of Sugnu AC in Kakching district were either partially or fully destroyed by the wind storm.
Meanwhile, relief and disaster management minister Awangbow Newmai along with government officials inspected the affected houses on Friday and assured of providing necessary assistance from the government at the earliest.
Local MLA K Ranjit also inspected the storm-hit houses.
As per local reports, at least 114 houses at different localities of Pangantabi GP were either partially or fully destroyed and 96 houses in different localities of Chairel GP were also affected.
Around 83 houses in Wangoo Nunggai, Wangoo Sangol Lambi, Wangoo Sabham and Wangoo Sandangkhong localities under Wangoo GP were also destroyed by the wind storm.
Around 85 houses in Pangantabi and Chairel areas have been fully destroyed by the storm while affected families are taking shelter at nearby houses and school buildings.
The wind storm also destroyed several community halls, Mandap, Laibung and veterinary hospital while uprooted trees and electric poles, blocking roads including Burma-Sugnu (Wabagai Sugnu) road at several areas.
However, police teams led by SDPO Sugnu T Bangka Bihari, Wangoo PS OC Atom Chittaranjan along with personnel of Wangoo Lamkhai OP removed uprooted trees and electric poles which were blocking roads and allowed traffic to resume.
Meanwhile, Sugnu MLA K Ranjit along with local leaders and government officials including SDO Waikhong and SDC Sugnu inspected affected families from early Friday morning and collected factual report of the damages done by the cyclonic storm.
After inspecting the affected houses and meeting affected families at Pangantabi, minister Awangbow said that he came to inspect the damaged houses after Sugnu MLA K Ranjit informed about the damages caused by the cyclonic storm in Pangantabi, Chairel and Wangoo areas while having Good Friday prayer.
Immediately, additional chief secretary and DC Kakching were communicated and rushed to Pangantabi to share suffering of the people though mudslide also blocked roads in Tamenglong district.
He then assured the affected people that government will take steps to provide immediate relief for all the affected people as government is for welfare of the people.
He also said that a team led by SDO Waikhong will do an assessment of the damages and provide relief assistance/materials based on report of the team without delay.
