Petitions filed against election of Biswajit, Rajen
HC issues notices, returnable by May 16, 25

The High Court of Manipur has issued notices to Power and Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit and Lamshang MLA Salam Rajen in connection with two different election petitions filed against them.
The notices are returnable on May 16 and May 25 respectively.
Seram Neken of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai filed the petition against Thongam Biswajit and it was listed for hearing before the single bench of Justice Ahanthem Bimol today.
The petition mentioned that it has been filed under section 80, 80-A, 81 and 84 read with section 100(1) (d) (i) (iv) and section 101 of the representation of the People's Act 1951 challenging the election of Thongam Biswajit as member of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Thongju Assembly Constituency on the ground of improper acceptance of nomination by the Returning Officer of Thongju Assembly Constituency.
Thongam Biswajit also failed to mention his proper and full address and also failed to disclose a pending criminal/FIR case in column number 5 of the affidavit.

Neken further alleged that Article 173 of the Constitution of India was violated as well as section 36, 125A and section 127 of the representation of People's Act 1951 and prayed for declaring the election of Biswajit as void and also prayed for declarating the petitioner Seram Neken as elected.
The High Court after hearing the submission of the petitioner's counsel issued notice to Thongam Biswajit returnable on or before May 16 and listed the matter on May 16 .
On the other hand an election petition filed by Pukhrambam Sumati against MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen was listed for hearing before the single bench of Justice MV Muralidaran.
The election petition of Pukhrambam Sumati was filed under section 80, 80-A, 81 and 84 read with section 100(1) (d) (i) (iv) and section 101 of the representation of the People's Act 1951 challenging the election of Sorokhaibam Rajen from Lamshang Assembly Constituency on the ground of improper acceptance of nomination by the Returning Officer.
Sorokhaibam Rajen also allegedly filed a false affidavit thereby wrongly stating his highest educational qualification as BA in the year 1988 from Manipur University in the affidavit filed under form number 26.The petition further alleged that Sorokhaibam Rajen did not disclose the details of a brick farm located at Thaoroijam Maning Leikai and immovable properties belonging to him.
After hearing the submission of the petitioner's counsel the High Court issued notice to Sorokhaibam Rajen returnable on or before May 25 and listed the matter on May 25 .
