Demise of a woman in her mid-20s and in advanced stage of pregnancy died at RIMS Hospital last evening evoked negative re-marks against the doctors by the victim's husband.
According to Aheibam Sa-natomba (30) of Lamshang Bazar, his wife Bijeta (25) was admitted to the gynae ward on September 11 and at around 9 am of September 13 she was taken inside the observation room.
With the doctors on duty suggesting that she would need Caesarean surgery to deliver the child, Bijeta was tak- en into the operation theatre at around 5 pm, Sanatomba recounted adding that she was administered an injection on her back.
While Bijeta used to regular consult dr Jetendra the said doctor put her in charge of another doctor identified by Sanatomba as Dr Usharani.
After administering the injection Dr Usharani reportedly left the patient to the care of a third doctor on duty, whom the husband identified as an assistant of Dr Usharani.
With Bijeta complaining of allergic sensation and suffocation the assistant called Dr Usharani and the latter rushing in advised the patient party to procure medicine for treating a certain brain ailment.
Even as some patient party went to purchase the prescribed medicine Bijeta was put on oxygen and about to be taken into the ICU (intensive care unit), said Sanatomba who also conveyed that he noticed no delivery related procedures initiated by the medical personnel.
As the wait for the brain treatment medicine continued Bijeta's elder sister seeing her younger sibling's eyes rolling upward tried to put her hand over it but the young housewife remained motionless eventually resulting in one Dr Ranjit declaring that Bijeta is no more.
Blaming alleged negligence by the doctors for his wife's death, Sanatomba demanded that hospital authorities probe the matter and initiate appropriate action against the doctors if found guilty.
Further informing that last rites of Bijeta has been performed today after she was taken home for no reference was made to conduct post mortem, he also conceded that some heated exchange of words ensued between the patient party and some doctors present.
