Cabinet decides Jan 4 for local bodies polls

The State Cabinet which met today has decided to jointly hold elections to 18 Municipal Councils and 8 Nagar Panchayats on January 4 next year.
Chief Minister O Ibobi chaired the Cabinet meeting which started at 2 pm at his Secretariat.
Speaking to the media, spokesperson of the Government, M Okendro said that the Cabinet minutely discussed the elections to be held to the local bodies.
After taking the matter put forward by MAHUD and proposal of the State Election Commission into consideration, it was decided to jointly hold the election to the 18 Municipal Councils and 8 Nagar Panchayats on January 4 next year.
The local bodies which will go to polls in January next year are Thoubal Municipal Council, Kakching MC, Mayang Imphal MC, Nambol MC, Moirang MC, Ningthoukhong MC, Bishnupur MC, Jiribam MC, Lilong MC, Kakching Khunou MC, Yairipok MC, Kumbi MC, Wangoi MC, Kwakta MC, Wangjing MC, Shikhong MC, Sugnu MC, Lamlai MC and Samurou Nagar Panchayat, Thongkhong Laxmi NP, Lilong (IW) NP, Andro NP, Lamshang NP, Oinam NP, Sekmai NP and Heirok NP.
The final electoral rolls for the polls will be published on November 9 and the notification will be issued on December 2.After the votes are cast on January 4, the results will be declared on January 13, he added.
On the other points which the Cabinet discussed today, Okendro said the growing traffic volume in Imphal was also minutely discussed.
The present practise of allowing parking of vehicles from BT road to Thangal Keithel and Paona Keithel will be stopped later.
At the moment parking along these route are allowed on one side of the road.
This is according to a Cabinet decision taken on June 12, 2012 .
Taking cognizance of the growing traffic snarl inside the busy commercial areas, the Cabinet has framed certain rules and regulations.
Among the decisions taken was to ask all owners of godowns located at Thangal Keithel and Paona Keithel to shift the godowns outside within two months, stopping the parking of vehicles along Thangal and Paona Keithel and to allow parking on top of Naga nullah along Nagamapal.
Another decision taken was to shift the Keishampat bus parking to ISBT once it becomes fully operational.
The Cabinet also decided to prorogue the 11th session of the State Assembly.
The Cabinet has also given its nod to the holiday list for 2016.Other significant decisions taken included establishing a Community Health Centre in the hill districts where there are 80,000 or more people, a PHC for every 20,000 people, PHSC for every 3000 people.
In the plain area it will be a CHC for 1,20,000 people, a PHC for 30,000 people, a PHSC for 5,000 people.
In line with this the Government already has a plan to set up 9 CHCs, 14 PHCs, 155 PHSCs, added Okendro.
