Photo exhibition opens

A photo contest cum exhibition and three-day photography workshop, organised by Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has kick started at DIPR premises, MSRTC complex Moirangkhom today.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, IPR Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee member Therie and IPR Principal Secretary Letkhogin Kipgen graced the opening function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Gaikhangam expressed hope that the exhibition would provide a platform to the photographers to showcase their skills and talents.
Stating that photography is a powerful medium and it is an inseparable part of journalism, the Deputy Chief Minister said that photos are being used as important evidence in any investigation.
In his speech, Therie said that there is no boundary dispute between Manipur and Nagaland after 1995 .
The two States are good neighbours and people of these States are inseparable, he observed.
K Meghachandra said that it is the first time that DIPR organises such a mega photo exhibition cum contest.
He said that he would urge the Government to increase the budget of the Department to organise such mega events in future as well.
Letkhogin Haokip said that photographers must take such opportunities to showcase their skills.
In his keynote address, DIPR Director Somorjit Salam said that the event was organised with an aim to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of enthusiastic photographers.
During the three-day exhibition cum workshop, six expert photographers will also exhibit their works to explain skills and methods of exploring photography as a medium of expression.
Over 100 photographers are taking part in the competition and around 500 photographs are being displayed at the exhibition.
