Ukhrul, October 28 2015:
After one JCO, identified as Suresh Tamang was killed in the attack at Kamjong on October 26, one civilian identified as Jeet Bahadur Tamang was found dead just one kilometre away from the site of the attack.
According to the villagers, travellers moving in a Winger taxi saw him herding cattle for grazing at a nearby water tank at Khoikai Lamkhai, Kamjong.
Jeet Bahadur Tamang aged 65, who is survived by his wife and three children lived at Khoikai Lamkhai for many years as a labourer looking after the cattle of the villagers.
He was found dead just a kilometre away from the ambush site with bullet injuries on his head with his arm also receiving a bullet injury.
It is reported that the family lodged a missing report at Chassad police station after he failed to return home following the Oct 26 ambush at Kamjong by PLA cadres.
The police along with the families and villagers launched a search and found him dead just a kilometre away from the ambush site yesterday.
He bore two bullet mark injuries on the head and an injury mark on his arm.
The deceased Jeet Bahadur Tamang hailed from Kangpokpi area.
The Tangkhul Kuki Welfare Association (TKWA), Kamjong area has strongly condemned the incident in which a civilian was killed.
The president of TKWA, M Chithung on behalf of the public has demanded a clarification on whosoever was responsible (whether armed militants or security forces) for killing Jeet Bahadur Tamang.
The TKWA further appealed to armed groups to respect the lives of innocent people and appealed to all to avoid gun fight at civilian/village areas.
The border area villages have been enduring all types of hardship because of the frequent gun fight and ambush wherein innocent civilians become victims.
It may be mentioned that the attack site is 8 kms from the 44 AR battalion headquarters, The militants sneaked in at least 25-30 kms and carried out the attack despite the enforcement of CrPc 144 at border areas within a 3 kilometre radius since October 12 .
Following the attack, the area has been put under high alert, and the security force has been carrying out search operations.
The frequent load shedding and network problems have made things more inconvenient for the people and the villagers have to rely only on BSNL CDMA service.
In such a situation, ascertaining detailed reports become very difficult due to network.
According to police, the body of the deceased civilian has been taken to Imphal for post mortem, after which the body will be handed over to the family for the last rites.
Khoikai is a Kuki village under Kamjong block, and is about 72 kms away from Ukhrul district headquarters.
