Slain AR man laid to rest

IGAR(S) paid last respects to Rifleman Paokholet Baite of 24 Assam Rifles, who died in an attack on October 25 near Moreh yesterday.
In the true spirit of Assam Rifles, the brave soldier laid down his life fighting the insurgents, said a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) .
When the troops of 24 Assam Rifles were patrolling between Kwatha and Satang on 25 October they came under heavy firing.
Rifleman Paokholet Baite who was leading the patrol took the brunt of the fire on his body to save his comrades, said the press release.
The brave soldier kept firing on the insurgents despite being hit by multiple gunshots forcing the militants to flee the area, added the press release.

This gave an opportunity to the other soldiers to take tactical positions preventing further casualties and dented the morale of the UGs.
There was no injury to any of the Assam Rifles troops because of the instant counter action, the press release claimed.
Inputs from reliable sources also indicated that some of the UGs were grievously injured during the counter action and they were evacuated to a hospital in Tamu.
Later during the search of the area, 24 Assam Rifles recovered one 9 mm pistol, one hand radio set and four IEDs, the press release said.
The funeral service of Paokholet Baite took place at Moreh in the presence of IGAR (S), Commander 26 Sector AR, Additional SP Chandel, ex-servicemen, Vaiphei community leaders and serving officers of Assam Rifles.
They paid their last respects to the brave son of the soil and consoled the grieving family.
Wreaths were laid and messages were conveyed on behalf of GOC-in-C Eastern Command, DG Assam Rifles and GOC 3 Corps.
IGAR (S) while addressing the martyr's family and relatives appreciated the brave act of Rifleman Paokholet Baite and assured them of all assistance to the dependents and children, added the press release.
During his condolence message, IGAR (S) affirmed that though the loss to the family is irreparable, the Assam Rifles fraternity would take care of the martyr's family as their own.
