87 graves of Manipuris found in foreign countries

Imphal, October 28 2015:
Eighty-seven graves of Manipuris who participated in World War I have been reportedly found in war cemeteries of four countries in Europe and Africa.
The graves of the 87 person were reportedly found by 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation Co-Founder Yumnam Rajeshwor in war cemeteries of France, Italy, Yemen and Egypt.
According to the records mentioned in the erected pillars, the 87 persons died during July 18, 1917 to February 18, 1919 .

It is believed that the 87 persons were among those 2000 Manipuris who were sent by King Churachand to help the British during the World War I .
Meanwhile, one of the 87 persons whose graves were found in foreign soils was identified by his son.
The identity of Putanleng Shinglai, son of Komoyo Shinglai from Hundung Khunou in Ukhrul district who died in April 5, 1918 was confirmed by Putanleng's son Soreiren Shinglai (85) .
During an interaction with media persons on Wednesday at MSRTC, Soreiren Shinglai said that Richungchao took his father to take part in the war.
Richungchao is said to be the first person who converted Tangkhuls into Christianity.
His father was cremated at St Sever Cemetery Extension of Southern Rouen in France, said Soreiren Shinglai.
