Stolen vehicles recovered

A joint team of Imphal police station and Imphal West district police commandos recovered six two-wheeler and three four-wheeler vehicles from a house at Lilong Haoreibi Lairaokhong after the detention of a man who bought the stolen vehicles today.
The man has been paraded along with the recovered vehicles before the media at Imphal police station today.
Imphal police station OC Shantikumar said that OCs of different police stations held a joint meeting with Imphal West SP Dr AK Jhalajit in the chair.
He added that during the meeting, the police officers chalked out a strategy to nab the vehicle lifters following steep rise of vehicle lifting cases in the past few months.
Shantikumar further said that the SP strictly instructed the OCs to form special teams at the concerned police stations to tackle the menace.
As per this instruction, a team of five Sub-Inspectors of Imphal police station comprising Premchand, Amitabh, Jeevananda, Johnson and Bidyasagar was formed under the supervision of the OC.
In their first operation, the team recovered an Alto car some days back, Shantikumar said.
During a frisking drive conducted at North AOC area today morning, the team saw a man driving a Honda Activa towards them in a suspicious manner.
They immediately stopped the man for verification and questioning, Shantikumar said.
The man has been identified as Thokchom Nilakanta (30) s/o Th Shamungou of Mongsangei Mayai Leikai.
During preliminary investigation, the engine number of the Honda Activa was found tampered.
When the police team questioned him about the two-wheeler, Nilakanta revealed that he bought the vehicle from Md Ajit (25) s/o Joyaruddin of Lilong Haoreibi Lairoukhong.
After this revelation, a joint team of Imphal police station and Imphal west commando rushed to the residence of Md Ajit today evening.
Although, Md Ajit was not found in his house, different four-wheeler and two wheeler stolen vehicles were recovered from his residential complex.
The recovered vehicles include one R-15 bike, one Bajaj Pulsar bike, two Honda Activas, one Honda DIO, two Maruti 800 cars and one Alto car.
Shantikumar also appealed to the people to double lock their vehicles.
