Congress, Left parties forge pre-poll alliance
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, January 27 2022: With the sole objective of defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Congress and Left Parties have formed a pre-poll alliance.Addressing a press meet held at in this regard at Congress Bha-wan here on Thursday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken asserted that considering the present situation in the coun-try and in Manipur under the PM Modi-led government, it is clear that BJP needs to be anni-hilated to prevent any further regression of the country.

Thus, 19 like-minded political parties recently formed an alliance to change the status quo.

"A similar pre-poll alliance between Congress, CPI, CPI (M), Forward Block, RSP and JD(S) has been formed in Manipur as well, with the aim of putting an end to the BJP government in the state.

CPI has already announced its candidates for Kakching and Khurai assembly constituencies, while Congress has announced the same for Kakching AC.

Thus, the two parties will be in for a friendly contest in Kakching AC.

However, Congress would not be fielding any candidate for the seat of Khurai AC.

The 6 political parties in the alliance instead would be extending support to the CPI candidate in Khurai AC, RK Amusana," he informed.

1CPI State secretary L Sotinku-mar stated that the 6 political parties would be extending support to all the candidates of the said parties.

He then expressed belief that the al-liance would be able to form the next government in the state and serve its citizens, while ushering in new de-velopmental changes.

The alliance would be properly named and a common min-imum programme would be worked out soon, he con-veyed, while adding that the alliance would pave the way for a coalition government.

"BJP would not be able to form the government again, in addition to losing the seats in the hill districts," he con-tended.

Meanwhile, CLP leader and ex-CM O Ibobi pointed out that the political par-ties in the pre-poll alliance were once part of the coali-tion government formed in 2002, which worked together as one entity in the interest of the state and its people.

He then said that the pres-ent pre-poll alliance would serve the people faithfully and would be different from the ruling BJP government.

Thus, he urged the people to extend support to the com-mon candidates fielded by the alliance in both the hills and the valley.

The press meet was also attended by CPI (M) state secretary Ksh Santa; RSP state secretary K Manoranjan; JD (S) president in-charge K Loken; Forward Block state secretary Kh Gya-neshwor; INC CWC member Gaikhangam and others.
