A Manipur Police constable has been allegedly detained by Anjuman of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Dam since the last fifteen days.
Recalling the incident, father of the victim Basir Ahmed said that on August 13 his son Najir Ahmed alias Phiroj (29) of Urup Mayai Leikai had gone for his duty at Nilakuthi Police Outpost.
But Anjuman on August 14 informed Basir Ahmed that his son had been detained by the organisation on theft charges.
When inquired about the case, Anjuman leaders allegedly asked Basir Ahmed to come to the organisation's office with Rs 3 lakh to secure his son's release.
Talking to media persons on Friday at Manipur Press Club here, Basir Ahmed said that he asked the Anjuman to hand over his son to the police which Anjuman had refused.
Basir Ahmed then lodged a complaint with Lilong Police Station, but the Officer-in-Charge failed to receive it, said the victim's father while adding that a warrant case application had also been submitted to the Imphal East Sessions Court which has failed to take any action till today.
Seeking the attention of the authorities over his son's case, Basir Ahmed asked if Anjuman is functioning above the established laws of the country.
