Imphal, September 04 2015 :
Imphal-Dimapur highway which was cut off following landslides and sinking of road surface may be fully restored and opened to heavy vehicles by September 9/10, according to information given by BRTF to the State Government.
BRTF has been working hard to clear earth and mud from the landslide affected portion in order to open the highway to light vehicles from September 6 .
The sunken portion had sunk in the past too and this is complicating the highway restoration work.
Nonetheless, maximum efforts are being put in to open the highway to heavy vehicles by September 9/10, informed an official source.
Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary (Works) O Nabakishore held a meeting with BRTF, police and transporters.
The meeting discussed about Imphal-Jiribam highway and the broken down Barak Bridge.
On account of the UNC's 48 hours highway bandh, the bridge repairing work would be suspended for today and tomorrow, said BRTF officials.
The repairing work would be completed by Monday at the latest and the bridge would be tested by using BRTF's own vehicles.
The meeting also discussed about transportation of excess loads on Imphal-Jiribam highway.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already sanctioned construction of a few RCC bridges over Barak river, added the official.
