Imphal, September 04 2015 :
Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA), Manipur said that the long pending issues of the teachers should be resolved to make teachers' day meaningful.
While welcoming the move of the State Govt to organise State level celebration of Teachers' Day on Sept 5, FEGOCTA in a statement, said the real honour to the teaching community will be sincerity, implementation of the National education policies and the Govt acting as an ideal employer.
If the Govt continues with the same extraordinary delays and fails to act on issues concerning the teachers, the celebration of teachers' day will be an annual ritual, it said.
After the Ministry of HRD came out with a new higher education policy on Dec 12, 2008, the only thing done by the State is extension of retirement age, it said.
FEGOCTA demanded the Govt to take up immediate steps to release the component salary, SCA & TA, grant one increment in the pre-revised scale, promote about 350 eligible teachers, fill up vacant posts of librarians and non-teaching staff, etc.
At the same time, FEGOCTA condemned the violence in Churachandpur and other places since Aug 31.In a democratic polity, the apprehension, fear and differences should be resolved through dialogue among the stakeholders, it added.
